Spotlight Interview with Tim Black, Managing Director at Creative Pipeline

Tim Black – Managing Director at Creative Pipeline

What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

Karl and I identified fairly early on Creative Pipeline’s Virtual Reality journey that we needed to help people understand what we have here with this incredible VR technology. We decided the best thing we could do for most people who are not familiar with the tech, or Experiential Learning philosophy, was to write what we see as “VR 101”. Attendees will walk away from this webinar with a well rounded knowledge of the importance of both VR, but also the power of Experiential Learning, and what that can practically do for your organisation.

What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

We have a very good understanding of what is possible with the use of this technology going forwards, as well as it’s practical implementation right now. It will be good to share our learnings, and answer any questions anyone might have about anything VR, be it the tech, the philosophy, why it knocks Powerpoint based training out of the park, etc.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

One of the most satisfying parts of my role is bringing together a growing team of like-minded people who have a passion for what we are building at Creative Pipeline. The space we work is right on the edge of what is possible, and to be able to offer the chance to “write the book” on how high end VR is developed and created is a very special opportunity to be able to offer to everyone involved.

How did you get into the industry?

I have always had a passion for science fiction and industrial design in film, that started with the original Star Wars films when I was a kid. I ended up studying Industrial (Product) Design at The University of Newcastle, NSW Australia, just as computer based 3D modelling and animation was appearing on the scene. I could immediately see this was going to be “they way it was done” in the future. I jumped into 3D and have not let go since. That was 25 years ago. 3D has now grown to become a big industry, as it underpins most produced items today, be it a product, a highway, a skyscraper or a jet. VR uses this 3D data, but in a completely interactive way, and is finally realising where I hoped the use of 3D would go, after realising it’s power 25 years ago. Exciting times.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Apart from incredible places in Australia, one place I love is Namche Bazaar in the Himalayas in Nepal. This is a town perched on a ridge that is halfway along the trekking route to Everest Base Camp, and is at an altitude of 3440m. It is hard to get to (only accessible by foot), but has fantastic accommodation, food and is surrounded by the world’s most incredible snow covered mountains, most over 6000m high. The best thing about the place is the incredible Sherpa people who live there. They make you feel very at home with them, and take care of you very well. You can walk 20 minutes out of Namche and see the mighty Mount Everest. I would highly recommend a Google image search for “Namche Nepal”.

Spotlight Interview with Roger Pearson, Ph.D., President Analytical Services at Aspen Research

  1. What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

I hope to impress on the audience how similar all migration studies are and how truly important they are in making sure a material is safe for its intended use. That holds whether the material is used in food packaging, pharmaceutical packaging or medical devices.

2. What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

I look forward to hearing their thoughts on the topics and expect to have some interesting discussions on the challenge studies for olefins and I’m sure the topic of the analytical evaluation threshold (AET) will come up.

3. What do you enjoy most about your role?

I get to interact with such a wide variety of companies and their technical experts in any number of fields. There is never a day that goes by that I don’t learn something from one of them.

4. How did you get into the industry?

I was working on my Ph.D. thesis research and was having some problems with the GC/MS I had. The principal scientist at Aspen Research at the time (24 years ago) was kind enough to offer me some instrument time and that was the start (after my thesis and a post doc) with Aspen.

5. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

I would say it probably has to be in the Rocky Mountains on the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway. That is a road that goes over the Beartooth Mountains near Red Lodge MT and drops into Yellowstone Park. The vistas are just phenomenal.

Spotlight Interview with Marcus Bates, Director External Partners Connected Devices at Aptar Pharma

Marcus Bates – Director External Partners Connected Devices at Aptar Pharma

Why did you decide to do a webinar with us?

Webinars have always been a great way to provide insight to the market place and to discuss key topics with colleagues. Since COVID 19, and the lockdowns that have been seen across the world, face to face contact at trade shows has been impossible. Meaning that a webinar has become an even more valuable tool for companies to use.

What will the audience gain from attending your webinar?

The webinar will have 4 presenters, with quite diverse backgrounds. Our objective is to provide the attendees with our insights over 60 minutes, highlighting data ranging from the evolution of the market place since COVID 19, the clinical setting and how it is changing as well as insights into patient centricity and behaviour. We are excited about sharing this knowledge with the attendees.

How did you get into the industry and what do you most enjoy about your role?

In 2000, having left the University of Manchester as a language graduate, I joined a French company that is a leader in the world of Pharmaceutical metered pumps and valves. This is Aptar Pharma. I have carried out a number of different roles, however irrespective of the role you are reminded of certain key values which resonate with my personal values: The need to build trust and respect through long term partnerships/ relationships. A pharmaceutical product will be about for years. It is crucial that this is carried into the fast moving world of digital!

What are you hoping to achieve in the future in your personal and professional life?

Professionally: In my opinion the conservative nature and regulatory constrained environment in which we reside is holding back giving true benefits of technology to patients. I really hope this changes in the next 3 – 5 years.

Personally:

I love all sports. As we get older team sports become harder and trying to stay fit becomes the focus. Having completed a half distance Iron Man, I wish to get fit enough to complete a full Iron Man!!

What would someone be surprised to know about you?

Most people think my lack of hair is due to age. Actually it is through me losing a bet when I was 22. So I shaved my hair off and have lived like it ever since!

Spotlight Interview with Dan Aylon, CEO & Adi Raz, Director at SignatureGlass

1.What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

Dan – Innovation in technology has changed the glassware industry and with it, the opportunity for branding, hospitality and retail. Attendees will be exposed to the latest innovations, technologies and trends showing how modern glassware manufacturing has allowed SignatureGlasses to adapt to meet ever evolving customer needs.

Adi – If the people can come out of the webinar with a better understanding of how a signature shaped glass can positively influence the brand experience, achieve the perfect serve and increase sales then we’ve done something good.

2.What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

Dan – Exploring how beverage marketers can dramatically improve their branded glasses without breaking the bank.

Adi – An interesting one could be what takes precedence, function or form. There is no 100% correct answer and such a discussion brings out many elements of branding, marketing, economics, ergonomics and more.

3.What do you enjoy most about your role?

Dan – Working with an incredible team, using innovation, design, technology, research and hard science to create the perfect serve.

Adi – Most enjoyable to me is the opportunity to meet and talk with people from around the world. Some from the biggest FMCGs in the world and some from start-up brands, from different walks of life but all with passion for their brands, their customers, their products.

4.How did you get into the industry?

Dan – I couldn’t understand why beverage brands, who are so invested and proficient in their marketing and communications, could let it all go at the critical moment when the lips meet the liquid. It seems they were willing to just grab any old standard catalog glass, slap their logo on it and use it as their “glass ambassador”. Then I saw the Coca Cola classic contour signature glass. It was my eureka moment. I realized that one day, all branded glasses would be like that.

Adi – By sheer chance actually. I was working in the Sports marketing and sportswear industry around Europe.
Dan Aylon and Laurence Crook, with whom I had worked with several years earlier on the 2007 America’s Cup Sailing competition called me up one day to ask if I was bored. I flew to Denmark with Dan to see the Carlsberg brewery and that was it. I was in.

5.Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Dan – Italy. The style, food, cars, art, landscape, design, passion. I can’t get enough of that.

Adi – I reckon that would be Fiji. I went to high-school there and have very fond memories of the people, the place. I remember it as paradise.
And there’s another reason, Fijian rugby is just awesome. The players have a flair like no other and Fiji is the best Rugby Sevens team in the world.

Spotlight Interview with Miles Kottman, Alliance Manager & Neil Cropper, Head of Programme Management at Bespak by Recipharm

What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

Miles – I think that that the attendees of our webinar will see that we believe the success of New Product Introduction (NPI) / Product Industrialisation is dependent on a robust Scope and Objectives and our approach to this is that one process does not fit all and therefore the allowance of flexibility is crucial.

Neil – Some insight into the device development process employed at Bespak and how we can support our customers to establish robust manufacturing strategies throughout this process to manage risk and deliver product at the right quality, at the right time from concept to launch.

What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

Miles – I look forward to discussions around the different process and approaches to NPI and how you can make these work for you and not against you in different scenarios.

Neil – Discussions on the challenges they face in developing and industrialising robust device concepts in increasingly competitive and highly regulated market landscapes.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Miles – I love that no day is ever the same. I enjoy the element of problem solving and providing guidance, internally and externally based on my experiences of New Product Introduction to date both in a Commercial and Technical capacity.

Neil – The variety of working across a wide portfolio of development programmes and using my experience and passion to achieve the best results for our customers and ultimately our device users

How did you get into the industry?

Miles – My first ever Job was working for a local In-Vitro Diagnostics manufacturer.

Neil – I started out my career in FMCG with Unilever and then moved to Philips to support them in their transition to be a more consumer focused development organisation. Within Philips I led a new breast pump development programme which was my first introduction to the regulated world of medical devices.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Miles – Whilst I have many places in the world I would like to visit or return to, I think one of my favourites is Italy, for the weather, culture and of course the food.

Neil – Anywhere where there are mountains as I am a keen skier, mountain biker and ultra trail runner….living in Norfolk can be quite frustrating!

Spotlight Interview with Arnaud Fournier, Regional Market Development Manager, NAM for Aptar Pharma

Arnaud Fournier – Regional Market Development Manager, NAM

Why did you decide to do a webinar with us?

Webinars are a great way to share information with a large audience from all over the world. We’d like to spread the word about the excellent work we do, our knowledge and insights that can help in developing injectable drugs.

What will the audience gain from attending your webinar?

I’m hoping the attendees will gain insights to our business, our expertise and how we can support our customers at different stages of their drug development project. Of course we will share some recent studies which underline our scientific know how and our value in providing high quality, state of the art stoppers, for optimal protection of sensitive drugs

How did you get into the industry and what do you most enjoy about your role?

I started my career with Stelmi 15 years ago as a Marketing Project manager in France. I was a working on the stoppers business for injectable drugs, and as you know, stoppers play a key role in the protection of injectable drug products. Now my role is much larger and covers all the aspects of injectable components.

Actually, I really love my job and I feel I’m making a difference. I especially like listening to customers, getting to understand their needs and expectations and their problems and then helping them find solutions that will accompany their medications for many years.

What are you hoping to achieve in the future in your personal and professional life?

There are so many things I would like to accomplish, new challenges to take up and these are not things that you do alone. In Aptar Pharma, we have a very open and collaborative way of working with many expert teams sharing their knowledge. I am lucky to be in a great company and surrounded by fantastic people. I’m passionate about the long term success of our company, which provides me with a real sense of purpose.

What would someone be surprised to know about you?

There’s a common belief that all French people eat cheese and lots of it. I think the average French person eats about 25kg every year and there’s plenty of choice- over 246 varieties to choose from. But even though I am French born and bred, I don’t eat any cheeses, I simply don’t like the taste. I’d much rather have a nice glass of wine. Cheers.

Spotlight Interview with Ricky Pickup, Technical Trainer at STAHL CraneSystems

Ricky Pickup – Technical Trainer at STAHL CraneSystems

  1. What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

Through globalization we are continuously confronted with challenges about threats of explosions from overhead crane systems that aren’t necessarily on our own front door, so we are looking to meet customer’s needs often in another country. I hope to offer some insight and understanding of how the areas of industry look on a global scale and clear-up some of the confusion that comes with so many different industry standards.

2. What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

We are constantly confronted with challenges in this field, different national regulations and customer needs require a high level of adaptability, I am always interested to hear how others have found solutions and their experience from the field.

3. What do you enjoy most about your role?

The opportunity to be involved in projects in all corners of the world and working with the teams to find the solutions for the customer’s needs in a continuously developing industry keeps everyday interesting.

4. How did you get into the industry?

After working in construction in the mining industry this was a section that really caught my attention. To start out with one of the industry leaders in the area of overhead crane systems and components was an exciting challenge that made the decision an easy one.

5. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

There are so many amazing places to just pick one is almost impossible but one spot that will always stick with me was a visit to Traverse City and the surrounding areas. On the top end of lake Michigan, I found the people incredibly friendly and a picture-perfect scenery.

Spotlight Interview with Chris Murphy, Senior Director, Product Marketing at Smart Communications

Chris Murphy – Senior Director, Product Marketing at Smart Communications

  1. What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

Just to be challenged with a different perspective. Wealth management success is as much about client management and client experience as it is about the financial focus, but sometimes doesn’t necessarily get as much attention. As client expectations are increasing, wealth management companies need to focus on identifying and removing points of friction and improving digital readiness.

  1. What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

I’d love to learn from practitioners on the call about that they’ve done to improve client experiences and to share some of the best practices that we’ve learned from some of our customers.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m in Product Marketing for a company that serves financial services as well as insurance and healthcare companies around the world – it’s a role which connects product, marketing, sales and services together. Combining these perspectives with real customer insight and impact and being able to share those stories more broadly is rewarding. .

  1. How did you get into the industry?

I did a lot of different things before I feel into technology marketing – including being an English teacher in Japan, a fruit picker and vote counter in Australia, as well as a mortgage consultant here in the States. I started in the technology space in sales originally while in graduate school but soon found that sales wasn’t my thing. I moved into to a services role running strategic digital marketing engagements for customers and have been around technology ever since.

  1. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Scotland – just full of great people with the right perspective on life.

Spotlight Interview with Rebecca Wood and Tony Sexton, Account Director and Managing Director at OSCAR LEARNING

Rebecca Wood – Account Director at OSCAR LEARNING

Tony Sexton – Managing Director at OSCAR LEARNING

  1. What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

We hope to raise awareness with dealerships that the Electrification deadline of 2035 is just around the corner!  Being ‘Dealer Ready’ is the key to success, with all staff being well versed in electrification and able to maximise opportunities with customers.

  • Giving staff EV confidence
  • Ensuring they are EV competent
  • Training that complements Manufacturer EV Training

With a growing need for more robust EV knowledge in dealerships, we will give you a focus on the EV questions on customers lips; what EV training your staff need in addition to your Manufacturer training; how to ensure your staff are confident in their EV interactions with potential customers.

  1. What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

According to a recent survey by Deloitte’s, half of consumers would consider purchasing an EV for their next car; the world of vehicle purchasing is about to get more challenging.  Although we can train our front-line staff up to know about their EV product line up, customers are becoming increasingly more demanding around Electrification knowledge in general.

  • We want to challenge your thinking on EV training for all frontline staff
  • For attendees to see that there is a mass transformation coming in the industry and customers will drive this
  • Show you that online, bite sized, personal learning is the way forward
  • How the OSCAR LEARNING tool can guide, embed, build confidence and know-how for all your staff

The ‘Cynical Customers’ are out there.  They are reluctant to change from petrol/diesel or even hybrid technology.  How sales executives handle these cynics will inform the purchasing choice in the future.  Convincing, satisfying, reassuring, and educating will be key.

  1. What do you enjoy most about your role?

We’ve sat on both sides of the customer desk – offering services too and receiving them in dealerships.  We have both trained in the automotive industry for years and being able to give staff the tools they need to make a 1% difference in the workshop, in CSI scores, in Mystery shopping activities etc. means that we can demonstrate a return on investment for individuals and stakeholders.

Fundamentally we love our jobs and the passion we have for the automotive industry is evident – the growing EV market just makes it even more exciting – changing habits and mindsets for the better!

  1. How did you get into the industry?

Tony trained staff on the Ford production line for the Model T and Rebecca joined slightly later…😊

Tony – got into the motor trade over 30 years ago, “I stumbled across it and haven’t wanted to get out of it since”

Rebecca – loved it since she started 20 years ago, “trucks, cars, 2 wheels, vans…everyone benefits from training and I love helping change behaviours”

  1. Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

Rebecca – ‘that’s a hard one for me; a tiny little village in the very north of Scotland where my paternal ancestors came from and you feel like the ocean there is the edge of the world….or our family bolt hole in Swanage; both very different but very relaxing.’

Tony – ‘Whitby; memories of visiting as a child, as an adult and with the family.  Somewhere we go to recharge – love the wind, rain, shops, arcades, fish and chips you name it, I love it!’

Spotlight Interview with Marc Savoie, VP Sales & Marketing at SMD Sensors

Marc Savoie – VP Sales & Marketing at SMD Sensors

What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?

I hope attendees will better understand the options available to them for managing their fluid processes in terms of sensors.  In many cases, there are different technologies and sensor types to achieve the same desired fluid control.  The choice typically is a balance of economics, design space, electrical considerations like output type and power available, and accuracy desired.

What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?

At SMD, we pride ourselves in offering solutions.  Many times our standard products fit the application perfectly.  However, when they do not we rely on our technical team to closely collaborate with our customers and provide  customized designs.  Using our rapid design and prototype capabilities, I really look forward to learning about the challenges they face and providing the best sensor solution.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industries are changing so fast.  So many useful and life-saving advances are constantly being launched.  It is inspiring to part of these high energy and important markets.  I enjoy learning about our customer’s technology and I am excited to offer our sensors in the support their important work.

How did you get into the industry?

I worked for many years as a technical sales manager for a large distribution firm offering over 20 product lines to semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries.  The job was 90% technical consulting and 10% sales and helping customers find the best product solution to their application was so much fun.  SMD was looking for someone who could help expand their product lines with complimentary products and focus on Medical devices and Pharmaceutical applications and I am very happy to part of this energetic and talented team.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?

I grew up in Rhode Island which is nicknamed the “Ocean State”.  There is a state park on the southern tip of Conimicut Island in Narragansett Bay that has a rock outcropping.  When you sit near the waves you cannot see any buildings, just quiet ocean, waves and seagulls.  When I am there, I feel I could be anywhere in the world and not have a better view.  Great place for fishing too!

Join Marc Savoie on a webinar entitled Fluid Management Sensors for Single Use Medical Devices/Pharma by SMD Sensors on 23rd September at 6PM London/1PM New York/1PM EST.
