Dr James Hinchliffe, Senior Life Sciences R&D Consultant at Capgemini

What do you hope attendees will gain at your webinar?
A broad-brush overview of what data-driven drug discovery could mean, and practical insights on how to move the initiative forward at both a strategic and tactical level.

What discussions do you look forward to having with the attendees?
I look forward to discussing how others have approached the journey to data-driven R&D and what they have learned. I’d also like to hear what problems people are still struggling to solve.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
I’m really motivated by the opportunity to contribute to problems that really make a difference to people’s lives, and you could argue nothing does that more than working in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. Seeing data about innovative new medicines coming through systems I’ve designed or contributed to, and seeing things moving faster because of new tools I’ve helped to put in researchers’ hands, gives me a real buzz.

How did you get into the industry?
As I was finishing my PhD, which I really enjoyed, I was interested in doing something more practical with the skills and knowledge I’d gained in academia. I’ve always been interested in programming and technology, so joining Tessella (part of Capgemini now),  which is full of people with a similar background, was a natural next step. After a few projects for pharma clients, I had the opportunity to specialise more in the sector, which I took enthusiastically as I think the challenges – and potential – that life sciences IT and digital offers are some of the biggest and most interesting out there.

Where is your favourite place in the world and why?
Well, I certainly love being at home in Oxfordshire with my family, but after the last year of lockdown it would be nice to be able to travel a bit further afield. I think I’d have to choose Scandinavia for its combination of incredible landscapes and relaxed, informal cities.

Join Dr James Hinchliffe on a webinar entitled Data-Driven Drug Discovery: Lessons from R&D Leaders by Capgemini on 23rd of March at 3PM London.
