As of today, there are still vast territories that deserve better connectivity. This represents very interesting opportunities for network providers striving to extend the reach for high-speed connectivity over the oceans and over remote territories that doesn’t benefit from such network yet.

The constant reduction of satellite launch cost and the newly emerging Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) and Geosynchronous-Earth-Orbit (GEO) satellites high speed communication technologies give raise to a whole new market where modern networks can extend behind the horizons and hold the promises for global connectivity.

This webinar will describe why optic communications in space are a key element of the success of those new networks. From intra-satellite to inter-satellite high speed link, optical communication over fiber optics or over optical wireless optical terminal can help extracting the most of those new communication architectures while offering low SWaP.

Space environment differs from orbit to orbit and it is important for all space electro-optics hardware providers, designers and product managers to understand many parameters and key values that can make the difference between successful missions and disasters.

Presented by

Guillaume Blanchette,

Product Line Manager – Space Optical Interconnect

Guillaume Blanchette has been active at the product management level and the business development level as a Space industry manager for Reflex Photonics since 2017. Over that period, he was instrumental in structuring the radiation tolerant modules portfolio of the company. Prior to joining Reflex Photonics, he held product line manager positions and technical positions in various high-tech optics company. He is a multiple inventor or co-inventor and patents author in the field of laser and electro-optic systems.

Arlen Martin,

Product Line Director – Fiber Optics

Arlen is responsible for the PLM and Applications Engineering Teams for the Smiths Interconnect Fiber Optics product group. The product lines include rugged 10G and 25G optical transceivers for the defense, space and commercial aerospace markets. Arlen has held various optics-related roles over his 30+ year career including product marketing & management of SFP transceivers and silicon photonics for the datacom and telecom markets, as well as IP licensing across diverse end markets.

Benoit Reid,

Global Engineering Director - Fiber Optics and RF Components

Benoit Reid has over 25 years of product and technology development in the field of photonics for multiple markets, and has held several technical and managerial positions for different high-tech companies. At Smiths Interconnect, he is responsible for leading the Fiber Optics and RF Components engineering team and managing product development from early technological phase to transfer and support into production. Benoit is an inventor or co-inventor of more than two dozen patents and has been involved in IP management and prosecution.
