For decades, the Internet and wireless networks provided a customer-driven tailwind that helped network operators grow their business. But these boons also bore the seeds of other major long-term repercussions.

Converged IP and wireless substitution have slowly hollowed out the legacy TDM voice network. Now operators are also wrestling with wireless convergence; with the effects of cloud and virtualization that span across both their networks and operations; with the need to accelerate fiber-based broadband builds; and with requirements to bring about a digital transformation for customers, by creating and supporting entirely new types of services.

Any one of these trends would be disruptive to the business. But coming all at once, network providers are under intense time and economic pressures to transform operations completely and fundamentally. Complicating matters, they must manage that transformation without an interruption in services to the customer base, and while continuing to meet all regulatory obligations.

Brian has covered the telecom industry for more than 20 years, and has been with Current Analysis for more than 10 years. As Service Director for Global Business Network and IT Services, Brian analyzes how service providers operate efficiently and compete effectively in enterprise services. His technology areas of coverage include network infrastructure and IP services; managed services including immersive video; and in the U.S., services targeting mid-market businesses.

After completing his masters degree in Electric & Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Pavia, Amer started his career at Politecnico of Milano with a startup specialized in Radio modems. In 2005 Amer moved to Siemens as a software Engineer. In 2006, he joined Italtel as a Solution Engineer. 10+ years international experience in program/project management. Amer's domain comprises Business and Network Transformation, Managed Services and Services Strategy.

In 2010 Amer joined Italtel team in Oman as project manager in the Network Transformation program at Omantel. In 2012 he relocated to Belgium as program manager for the Mantra program at Proximus. From November 2015 Amer is Head of Professional Services Strategy & Marketing in Italtel.

Besides his Masters degree in Engineering, Amer holds an Executive MBA from the Maastricht University School of Business & Economics.
