Health in Gum, a new drug delivery system to produce a medicated chewing gum

Are you planning to use innovative oral drug delivery systems? Do you want to produce a medicated chewing gum with no investment in equipment? In this webinar session we will explain and investigate easy options on how to obtain a medicated chewing gum.

'Health in Gum' is a powder gum specially designed to produce an easy to create medicated chewing gum. This solution helps to provide a mix of Gum Base, Softeners and Polyois that enables users to innovate into oral drug delivery systems. The process of adding your API and the ability to compress it into tablet equipment to obtain a compacted product is one of the many advantages. Other advantages are as follows:

    • Attractive and pleasant format that improves compliance.

    • Fast onset of action. Search for immediate effect.

    • Patient’s active control over treatment.

    • A balanced and controlled intake.

    • Provides systemic and local effect.

    • Reduces exposure to gastrointestinal side effects caused by APIs.

    • For either therapeutic or functional use.

Recent successful examples of chewing gum acting as a oral drug delivery system are:

    Cold Relief Chewing Gum

In this case we entered into a new application for medicated gum, with Ceritizine as the active ingredient used in the formulation for the first time. The study demonstrated the correct uniformity of content and release of Cetirizine after 15 minutes of chewing and thus the effectiveness of the drug delivery system also for cough and cold products.

    Energy Chewing Gum

Caffeine is already being used as an attractive ingredient to be administered as a chewing gum. It increases alertness and provides energy to drivers, sportsmen, soldiers etc. Here, the critical point was to evaluate the amount of caffeine released from the gum by chewing. Results in research with ‘Health in Gum’ caffeinated chewing gums demonstrated total release of the caffeine by chewing during 15 minutes, highlighting the convenience of this innovative delivery system.
