Comprehensive update and overview of new clinical studies in diabetes and how the results from these studies will influence future research and treatment of diabetes.

Dr. Fonseca will review the important clinical trials conducted in diabetic patients in the past couple of years thus providing an overview of the currently important new insights in the field. Important drug classes and results from these studies will be presented and commented including SGLT-2 inhibitors, GLP-1 analogues, new insulins, weight loss drugs and novel anti-inflammatory approaches. Both efficacy outcomes and safety/tolerability issues will be discussed extensively. Dr. Fonseca will also touch on the latest treatment recommendations for Type 2 diabetes.

Vivian A. Fonseca, MD, FRCP, is Professor of Medicine, the Tullis-Tulane Alumni Chair in Diabetes, and chief of the Section of Endocrinology at Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is currently President for Science and Medicine of the American Diabetes Association. Dr. Fonseca has served on and been chairman of the clinical practice committee of the American Diabetes Association, the ADA Disaster Task Force, ADA strategic planning committee and the joint ADA/ACC "Make the Link" Program. His current research interests include the prevention and treatment of diabetic complications and risk factor reduction in cardiovascular disease.
