Simple methods for the formation of carbon-nitrogen bonds by photochemical and electrochemical methods
Carbon-nitrogen bond forming reaction still holds as a major transformation in synthetic organic chemistry. Numerous methods are available for this transformation, however innovative, simple and clean new methods are still desirable.
Though reactors for both photochemical and electrochemical transformations are commercially available, these items can be assembled in an economical manner from locally available materials.
The presented C-N bond formation reactions can be applied for the synthesis of biologically active compounds and these methodologies saves reaction steps over traditional functionalization reactions.

Received Ph. D from NIIST, CSIR-Trivandrum under the guidance of Dr. Vijay Nair and moved to ICSN, CNRS France for a postdoctoral fellowship with Professor David Grierson. Subsequently moved to Columbia University and worked with Professor Gilbert Stork on the stereoselective total synthesis of Taxol. After two years at Stork’s group, started industrial career at Schering-Plough Research Institute/Merck in New Jersey and continued at the same place for about 12 years. Extensively published from Merck Schering-Plough and holds numerous patents. In 2014, relocated to Hyderabad, India and currently working at Piramal Discovery Solutions, Ahmedabad as Director of Chemistry and Analytical operations.
