An Update on Labelling and Regulation and New Innovative Solutions for Clean-Label Sodium Reduction

News about the coronavirus outbreak and the havoc it has wreaked on the world has caused fear for our health and caution to avoid the spread. Early reports have shown that complications from heart disease can contribute to more severe symptoms and death from COVID-19. Studies have shown that overconsumption of sodium in salt leads to heart disease, the #1 cause of death globally. Efforts by the World Health Organization (WHO), World Action on Salt, Sugar and Health (WASSH) and Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) have been made to raise awareness about the dangers of high levels of salt in the food system. But their efforts haven’t been enough.
