Discussing VM 12 SHC – the new ferritic, ASME certified alternative in powergen design
The standard of performance expected of modern power plants is constantly rising. Improvements in efficiency for cost-effective power generation and simultaneous reductions in CO2 emissions can only be achieved by raising the process temperatures – and this means greater stressing of the materials employed.
Steels used in power plants have to have properties such as good high-temperature strength, superior oxidation resistance, outstanding creep behaviour but also excellent fabricability in cold bending and welding and on top being equipped with international norms and certificates. The new VM12 Super High Corrosion resistant steel patented by Vallourec meets all these requirements perfectly.
In the seminar you learn about the applicable international codes and standards of VM12-SHC, its chemical composition and microstructure. See the mechanical, creep and physical properties and VdTÃœV and ASME recommended treatment and usability of the new steel grade.
Where you had to use stainless steels in the past you have a new option now: see how VM12 SHC gives you the power of choice to increase your power plant efficiency.
Presented by
Mahmud Jarrar,
Director Technical Customer Service, Steam Tubes & Pipes
Mahmud has nearly 15 years in the group. He joined Vallourec in the Mülheim Conti Mill as a Quality engineer after graduating as a Engineer of material science . He later became the Project Engineer and Production Manager for a finishing shop dedicated to power generation products. Since 2005 he has worked in the technical sales team for the Powergen Division and has lead this team since 2009.
