Extremely short BiDi MFL tool provides new opportunities for the inspection of challenging pipelines

There are several reasons for certain pipelines to be called unpiggable. The unknown status of these pipelines can pose a threat to the integrity management process of pipeline operators. Although alternatives like direct assessment and spot checks using in-field, non-destructive testing exist, the most valuable information can only be obtained from the inside of the pipeline using in-line inspection devices.

One of ROSEN’s recent developments for the inspection of these unpiggable pipelines are extremely short Bi-Di Inline-Inspection tools. This unique new generation of Bi-Di tools only require one entry/exit point and can even be launched and received through a pig launch valve.

Once an entry point to a pipeline has been identified, a common challenge is the unknown cleaning status of the pipeline. The measurement and assessment of the cleaning status as a function of the log-distance would be the first step to enter a progressive cleaning and inspection program. Most of these data nowadays can be obtained from the inside of the pipe. Starting with coarse data gathered by simple but intelligent cleaning tools, this information will be refined and consolidated with the progression of the cleaning process and more sophisticated tools.

This webinar addresses advantages and practical solutions for cleaning and inspecting pipelines with a Bi-Directional pigging approach.
